Rutledge Residence
Rutledge Residence, Lake Forest Park, WA
The existing home was an awkward merger of the original 1930's home with a 1970's addition. The 1991 remodeling was focused on opening up the tight, closed in existing spaces and taking maximum advantage of sweeping easterly mountain views. A large new entry was added to the modest western facing streetfront and the new roof lines step down the site matching the sloped grade. Large window areas and French doors open to extensive new decks and stone terraces on the view side of the home. High ceilings with exposed beams and layered soffiting complement the new open floor plan. The addition of stucco and large roof overhangs were used to create a northwest contemporary look to the new home.
